Have you ever been around people that have brought the absolute worst out in you? I have. It is like they are poison to your very being. So, how do you handle these toxic people in intelligent ways? Here are a few things you can try.
Recognize Who Toxic People Are
To start with, you need to recognize who these people are in your life. Just because they are toxic to you doesn’t mean that everyone will have the same view of them. It could be something to do with your relationship mainly. Or, you could be jealous of them in unhealthy ways.
Whatever the reason for the toxicity, you need to identify it for what it is. Figure out who those people are so that you can make different choices.
Limit Time Around Them
As much as possible, limit the time you are around those people. If you work with them, that might be a little more challenging to navigate. I’m not suggesting you quit your job, but find ways to stop being around them as much. It’s easy to start believing or letting toxicity affect your view of yourself when you’re constantly surrounded by it. The further away you can get, the better.
Don’t Follow Them on Social Media
Whatever you do, don’t have a relationship with them on social media. You don’t need their voice in your head on a regular basis. If you are feeling poisoned by someone, you need to take a break from them. Social media is meant as an outlet to socialize and keep in touch with friends and family. But it’s an outlet. Make sure it doesn’t begin to consume your life. There’s no reason to surround yourself with toxic people.
Depending on your relationship with that person, you may feel obligated to be friends with them. If you can’t bring yourself to unfriend them, then stop following their posts. This will keep you from seeing what they have to say.
Up Your Positive Influences
Find other relationships and people to surround yourself that are positive. If you are only around toxic people, it will destroy you. Counteract that as much as possible by bringing in positive people to your life.
The more positiveness you are surrounded with, the better you will deal with the negativity.
Don’t Listen To Their Criticism
Sometimes you need to listen to the critics, but if the person constantly has terrible things to say to you or about you, you need to stop paying attention. Do everything you can to ignore their criticism because they do not deserve a place in your life.
Limiting the negativity in your life is so important. Toxic people can destroy the way you feel about yourself. These are some tips that will help you deal with them and eliminate their toxicity in your life.
