Why You Should do Something Fun Every Day

When we were kids, we couldn’t wait to be grownups, so we could do whatever we wanted. Boy, were we wrong in that wish. I remember as a kid; my parents told me to enjoy my childhood while I could. Like a typical kid, I didn’t believe them.

do something fun every day

Don’t get me wrong here. I do not want to go back to being a child. I love being an adult, the freedoms and responsibilities that come with it, life is good. However, I couldn’t have been more wrong to think that I could do as I pleased when I grew up.

Work and household responsibilities have replaced playtime. Paying bills and buying groceries have taken up my paycheck. It is true what my mom always said, “With freedom comes responsibility.”

For many years, I focused all of my time and energy on the long list of to-do’s mocking me from the notepad on the fridge. Over time, I learned why it was so important to take time each day to do something fun. Here is why I have decided to do something fun every day.

You Need a Break From Work to Have Renewed Passion

You can get wrapped up in your work so easily, no matter what type of work you do. Maybe you have a full-time job in a busy office atmosphere. Possibly you work part-time and head off to school the rest of the time. It could be that you stay home with your children and spend your days caring for your precious young ones.

No matter what you do for your job, there is more to life than just your responsibilities. I’m not saying that you don’t enjoy your job, because I think many people do. What I am saying is that you need a break from your work to come back and feel more passionate about your job.

Stress Melts Away While Doing Something Fun

It doesn’t matter what you do for a living. You are sure to encounter stressful situations. When it comes to stress, it often builds and grows because things tend to pile up. It can’t ever be just one thing.

When you commit to doing something fun, you can detach from the stress for a while. This gives you the ability to face your stresses with more confidence. It won’t make the problem go away, but it will help you handle it better. And can make you feel so much more relaxed. Talk to your spouse, maybe plan a date night or just drive around town on the backroads. There’s a ton of fun things you can do with your best friend, and you’d be surprised how quickly you forget about your worries and stress when you’re laughing and having a good time.

Fight Off Depression and Feeling Blue

When you get wrapped up in the things you have to do and take no time for yourself, you will hit burnout. Once you burn out on life, it affects your mood and feelings. One way to fight off feelings of depression is for you to spend time doing fun things.

Commit to doing something you find fun every day. It doesn’t have to be something big. Focus on finding things you enjoy doing that take just a few minutes. Maybe you enjoy taking a run, dancing around to fun music, or watching a show. Whatever it is, be sure you take time each day to laugh and enjoy yourself.
