The other day, I needed Austin to take some pictures of me for the event that I’m attending in New York City next week. I’ll be going to the Media and the City Event where they will be shooting a new television series of 12 women entrepreneurs. (I’ll be assisting with background stuff.)
I was asked for a picture so they could create some promotional materials for me. This was the second time in a week that I was asked by a client to give them a head shot of me. So, I told Austin we needed to take a few pictures of me so I could have plenty to choose from in the future.
*This is what they created from Austin’s and my photoshoot.
Home Date Night Idea – DIY Photo Shoot
If you’re looking for fun date night ideas at home, this DIY photoshoot is it! We spent about 20 minutes taking pictures of me. I had no idea how to pose, so Austin put on some music for me to dance around to. Sure, a lot of the pictures had my hands out of focus, but we could crop those out.
After we spent that time doing the photos, Austin told me that he had a blast taking the pictures. That is when I knew it would be a great stay at home date!
Set Up For Your Photos
I suggest you take the time to dress up for your pictures. If you are going out for a date night, then you are likely already going to be dressed up…but if you’re not going out, then get dressed up anyway. You will be much happier with the final pics if you have taken the time to look nice.
Here are some other things to keep in mind when setting up for your date night at home photoshoot.
- Lighting- natural light is best. If you can’t go outside, then open all of your blinds to let in as much light as possible, whether in your living room, kitchen, or bedroom. That being said, you’ll want to do your photos during the day.
- Poses- this was by far the hardest part of the photoshoot- knowing how to pose. I always feel like a big doe-doe when it comes to posing for pictures. I really loved Austin’s idea of playing music for me, because it got me moving around. You can always do a few Pinterest searches for pose ideas ahead of time.
- Props- it can be nice to have some props in your picture. When I have done photoshoots with my kids, I’ve let them hold toys, sit in rocking chairs, snuggle the dogs on the living room couch, and things like that.
- Background- when we were doing my photo shoot the other day, I needed a plain background, but that is not ideal. Look around your house, outside, or while you are on a date night for a good background. We like to go into a bigger city for our date nights, so the tall brick buildings make for wonderful photos.
Take Turns With Each Other
Take turns snapping pictures of one another. The cool thing about Austin taking pictures of me is that it is much more natural than if someone else is taking the picture. He can tell me to smile at him and I will give a smile that I don’t give to other people.
If you aren’t in a place where you can get someone to take pictures of you two together, at least get a few selfies.
Lead Into Intimacy
If you want to take this home date night to the next level, you can always download my free printable bedroom game called Sexy Picture Dares. I have put together sexy suggestions for pictures. Just as a note, you’ll want to get an app like the Couples App so that it doesn’t save the images on your phone. It also has a password feature.
Hopefully, you will have a lot of fun with this free date night idea and the many other date night ideas at home we have on our blog.

Hi Keelie,
You look so cute in your photos!
You have so many great ideas, and I wish I had the confidence to try them out. I think your photo shoot idea would be great for the pretty girls. I do not like the way I look, and I look hideous in every photo ever taken of me. I used to toss out any photos that I was in, but then someone said “if something happens to you, your kids will be sad that they don’t have any photos.” So now I just tuck them away. Anyhow, I struggle with believing my husband finds me even remotely attractive, and so I don’t know if I could go through with something like this. Maybe someday, once I get out of my own way. But it’s a great idea.
I hoping that one day I will find a way to find myself good enough to take part in some of your ideas, because most of them sound really fun.

It is very hard to put yourself out there on camera, I agree. I encourage you to start out by taking selfies. That is how I felt more confident with being in pictures. I used to hate the way I looked too. Selfies actually did a lot to help me.
