Gyms, Jazzercise, and Zumba Oh My!

This post is brought to you by Authority Shoe. The thoughts and opinions expressed here are that of Love Hope Adventure.

It has been a year of changing our health for the best around here. Austin has gone to the gym a few times with a friend. He’s been biking more and finding ways to be more active. I’ve been doing more of my own choreographed jazzercise, and I’ve been eyeballing places to take up Zumba.

You see…we were given these fitbits, and they have been really motivating to us. There’s something unsettling when you see the calories you are consuming exceed the amount of calories you are burning. So, we have been adding in more exercise.

Here’s a few things that we have been doing to increase our activity and build strength.

Weightlifting at The Gym and Home

A few months ago, we found weights on sale for really cheap. I’ve been using them to strengthen my arms at home for a while. Austin uses them here at the house on occasion. He’s also been heading to the gym with a friend of ours every other week to work out.

The routines we do are relatively simple. We do:

  • Lawnmower pull
  • Single arm back row
  • Hammer curl
  • Overhead tricep extension
  • Bent over reverse fly
  • Lateral arm raise

I’m finding that it is helping my arms to feel much more stable. Since I have very loose joints due to a genetic disorder, it is important that I build up the muscle around the joints.

My Own Form of Jazzercise

Oh, Jazzercise has been around forever it seems like. I remember my mom having Richard Simmons VHS tapes back in the day. I loved dancing around to his routines.

I do my own form of jazzercise now. As I am working around the house, I’ll put on music and end up dancing to the beat. I wouldn’t considered it to be a truly targeted workout like a real jazzercise class would be, but it is fun and gets me moving.

One thing to note about my rouge jazzercising, is that I am often wearing flip flops when I break out in dance. This is not always the smartest idea, because my flip flops will get caught on the floor. Not such a pretty sight when I’m falling down and tripping over my own feet. Wearing the right shoes for jazzercise is definitely important, especially if you are going to take a class.

DIY Zumba

I haven’t been able to attend a Zumba class yet, even though I really want to. However, there are plenty of YouTube videos that you can check out for Zumba routines. I’ve loved every single one of them that I have put on. It’s totally high energy and awesome dance beats.

Biking and Running

Austin has had a chance to do some biking around the neighborhood and to nearby businesses. I've had a chance to run through the neighborhoods. Yay for sidewalks! We also own a stationary bike that I ride when I can.

If you can’t get to a gym, there are many exercises you can do at home. Check out this video I did showing a few simple moves that will help you have better sex.
