If you haven’t heard of Periscope yet, this is a new social media platform that I have fallen in love with. Periscope is an app you put on your phone and it allows you to live stream video of yourself. It is owned by Twitter, so when you start a live stream, it tweets it out and lets others know you are on.
How to Get on Periscope
I’m not a super techy person, so it took me a little bit to figure out how to get on Periscope. This is not something you can do from your computer at this point. You will need your cell phone to do live streaming.
Go to Periscope.tv and you will see the icons at the bottom to download the app through the google play store or the app store.
Once you have the app downloaded then you can start following people and doing your own Periscope.
The first time you Periscope yourself, you will have to get over the fact that you are going to have to figure out the technology in front of everyone that comes on to watch….so, yeah, brace yourselves for that.
One good thing about this platform is that your scopes are only up for 24 hours and you can delete them immediately if you want to.
What’s the Point of Live Stream That Deletes Itself?
This is the biggest question that Austin kept asking me. What is the point of this live stream video if it deletes itself after 24 hours. He was not sure why I would do this verses just keeping up with my YouTube channel…that pays me ad revenue.
It took me a while to figure out the benefits of this platform myself, but now that I get it, I love it!
The best part of this platform is having the ability to interact with you guys! If you join me live on Periscope, then you can type your questions and comments to me.
I really love the fact that I don’t have to be like the Great Wizard of Oz…you know, just that voice you hear. Instead, I get to be a real person that you can actually see. Seeing someone speak and interact pulls down any pretenses that you have formed about them.
Even if I do not try to make myself seem like something I’m not, it can be really hard to be for real here on the blog.
Find My Old Scopes on Katch.Me
On Periscope itself, your videos are only up for 24 hours. However, you can link your videos up with Katch.me and it will keep all of your old scopes on there. I really love this feature, because you can go back and see what I’ve already talked about.
I work for a blogger that introduced me to this platform, but I didn’t really see any value in it. She does a lot of video based marketing, but I couldn’t see as how this was any different then her normal Facebook vids and YouTube vids.
It wasn’t until I started following Crystal Paine that I had any understanding of how great a platform this can be. After I started following her, I found a few other bloggers I follow that scope. I’ll say this, it is actually a lot of fun for me to interact with these guys instead of being a silent reader that stalks their blogs.
Just so you know, none of these awesome ladies are marriage bloggers, but these are some of the lifestyle bloggers I follow.
Crystal Paine- Money Saving Mom
I’ve talked about Crystal before here on the blog. She has had tremendous impact in my life over the last 7 years and the biggest reason that I started Love Hope Adventure. You can read my full testimony about this amazing lady over at her website.
You can follower her and check out all of her old scopes on Katch.me/moneysavingmom. In her afternoon scopes, she has given me tons of amazing advice that I have implemented here on the blog. Also, I follow her book club and morning motivation scopes which have added a lot of value to my life.
Erin Odom- The Humbled Homemaker
I started following Erin a couple years ago, because I would see her posts come through Crystal’s facebook page and on her website. I loved reading her lifestyle posts about decisions they have made on raising their kids. She has a lot of the same philosophies that I have when it comes to parenting. Besides she was another homeschool momma I could connect with.
Funny enough, I found out through Facebook that Erin is related to a family that I grew up near. I used to watch her cousin every day after school for two years. Her Uncle and Aunt were a big part of my life and they were actually the photographers at my wedding.
It was so cool making that connection to a blogger that I had been following. I had the chance to guest post a couple times for Erin. One of my posts was a marriage post about communication.
I’ve been following her on Periscope ever since I figured the whole thing out. Erin is a natural momma, and I love hearing her talk about this whole world I’ve never been a part of before. I recently learned about this drink called kombucha…I’m told it’s yummy.
You can check out Erin’s old scopes on Kath.me/humbledhome. She is a lot of fun to watch and interact with.
MacKenzie Monroe- Bold Turquoise
I was introduced to MacKenzie’s blog, Bold Turquoise, because Crystal talked about her so often in her scopes. MacKenzie released a podcast recently that I told you about. I do not listen to podcasts in general, but I’ve really enjoyed hearing her.
Before she started her podcast, she has had a morning scope for Cultivating the Lovely. I really enjoyed listening to her talk about scripture. She has been doing a lot more day to day life things, so it is awesome to see her be mom.
These are the top 3 fabulous ladies that I follow regularly. There are a few others that I follow, but do not have a chance to listen to them. Seriously, if I can watch 2 or 3 a day I’m doing good. Of course, I do follow Austin, but he doesn’t get on often.
Some of these other scopers I tune into sometimes include:
Keelie is a mother of three amazing boys and married to her high school sweetheart, Austin. She spends her days running R5 Website Management, taking care of the home, and investing in her children. In her spare time, she loves to encourage married couples to grow deeper in their relationship and find joy in their marriage.
