I’ve wanted to get into the smoothie game- but I really never know what to put in them. I’ve tried kale smoothies which turned horribly. Many times, I use fruits that I’ve had to freeze to keep them from going bad.
Honestly, though, I don’t have a lot of information to give on smoothies period. That is why I invited Rebecca Anderson on to share some things she adds to her smoothies.
Here’s what she has to say-
Smoothies are a fantastic way to get all the essential vitamins and minerals that your body needs. But the best thing about smoothies is that they are super delicious! They are a great example of healthy food that isn’t boring. You can also a variety of ingredients to your smoothies. Each ingredient has different health benefits. Not sure what to add to yours? Here are our pick of some extremely beneficial smoothie ingredients.
But one thing you need before you start making your smoothies is a blender. Not got one just yet? You can buy them online and have them delivered in a couple of days. We think the vitamix 7500 is the cream of the crop.
Frozen Bananas Make a Healthy Smoothie
Freeze a banana before you add it to your smoothie. This will make your smoothie very cool and refreshing! Perfect for a summer’s day! But bananas have many important health benefits as well. They are great sources of vitamin B6. This vitamin is extremely important for brain function. Bananas are also high in energy that can help your body get through a grueling workout!
Plain Greek Yogurt
Generally speaking, it isn’t a good idea to add full-fat milk to your smoothies. It is very high in calories, and there are healthier ways of making creamy smoothies. One of these ways is to add Greek yogurt.
This yogurt also has much higher levels of calcium, which is good for your bones and can prevent osteoporosis. Greek yogurt is also extremely dense in other important nutrients that your body needs.
I’m sure most of you weren’t fans of beets when growing up. However, it is time to change that as these little veggies are super healthy! Add them to your blender to make a smoothie that is high in nitrates.
These nutrients are important if you do a lot of physical activity and workout regularly. You will find that you perform better at the gym if you consume a lot of beets. So start adding them to your protein-rich smoothies!
Frozen or Fresh Blueberries
Blueberries have been getting a load of good press lately. And there is no wonder why! These little berries are extremely high in fiber and various vitamins. They are also a good source of ellagic acid and quercetin.
These two compounds are widely thought to be effective at preventing chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancers. Many studies have also shown that quercetin is great at fighting inflammation in the body.
Flaxseed is another useful ingredient that can fight inflammation in the body. So it is a good idea to add flaxseed to your post-workout smoothies to help soothe muscle aches and pains. There are also many nutrients in the seeds that can help boost your immune system and overall health.
When adding the seeds to your smoothie, gently grind them with a pestle and mortar before stirring them into the finished smoothie.
Hopefully, this blog post will have given you some great inspiration for some delicious smoothies. Now you can try and come up with your own recipes!
