Romantic Bedroom Decor On A Budget

A few months ago, I set out to put together a romantic bedroom decor that can work in many different aesthetics. I did this because I really believe that having a romantic bedroom can increase the likelihood of you having sex. If the bed is made, everything looks inviting, it makes it a lot easier to get in the mood.

Most of the rooms in my house have a bit of glam accents in them. So, google the type of decor of your room and then add glam to it and you’ll find these types of items featured in the room: mirrors, soft candles and lights, fur, chunky blankets, etc. I’d consider my room to be rustic farmhouse glam.

I was trying to meet this criteria when I chose this bedroom decor:

  • It would range between $200 – $250 to create the look.
  • It could work with a couple’s existing decor.
  • Romantic and inviting.
  • Easy to make the bed daily.
  • Available for purchase online.

See below for what I came up with.

Furry Bedspread

This is the second furry bedspread I have owned. I went with white, but this listing comes in several different colors. This is a duvet cover, meaning you can unzip it and add a bedspread inside of it. I don’t personally do that because I’m very hot-natured. If we need an extra blanket on the bed we put something thin underneath of this bedspread.

What I love most about this bedspread is that it’s lightweight, cozy, and soft. One thing I don’t like about furry bedspreads is that too many wash cycles, and the fur gets matted. Another issue I’ve dealt with is that the blanket gets balled up inside of itself.

I wash my bedspread about 4-5 times a year. It held up pretty well in the wash, but you could tell over time that the fur was getting worn out. I had it for 2 years but replaced it with this one because my dog chewed a hole in it. So it was getting more and more destroyed in the washer. Overall, I think this is a great purchase, and I love it.

Also, I wanted to mention that this bedspread comes with two pillowcase shams. These are meant to be used decoratively to cover up your bed pillows.

Inspirational Quote Pillow

This pillow is a Love Hope Adventure original design. You can get this from my Etsy shop here. I made a few different shades for this pillow, but I am featuring the white one on my bed. It’s actually very fluffy, and the print quality is great. I’m using a third party print on demand company for this product. I thought that the buying process was great and the pillow got to me in about 2 weeks.

Chunky Chenille Blanket

I wanted a luxurious, chunky accent blanket to lay on the edge of the bed. This blanket is very small and not really something you’ll use to cover yourself up unless you’re really short. All in all, this is an accent piece. I chose it because I wanted to add some color to my bed. Since my headboard has blue accents, I went with the light grey. It also matches the dog beds I sit at the end of my bed.

Like the bedspread listing, you can get this blanket in various colors to match your bedspread. It’s easy to fold it in half and lay it on the corner of the bed.

Grey Dog Beds

This is not part of the romantic bedroom decor, but I do want to mention these. If you have dogs and want to buy beds that match your decor, these beds are a great option. I got the small 23/23 size beds, and my dogs love them. They are both dachshund mixes and weigh about 25 pounds. I’ve had to wash these beds every 6-8 weeks. So far, they’ve lasted me a year without issues.

Fur Rug

I want to mention adding a fur rug to your bedroom decor. However, I didn’t buy one for my bedroom. I happened to already own a white fur rug that I found on the side of the road. People throw out many beautiful things where I live because they know people will come by and pick them up. Here’s a white fur rug that looks a lot like the one I have on my floor. I don’t have experience with it, but it has great reviews. Also, it comes in various colors, so you could match your bedspread with one of these.

BTW, my dogs love having a fur rug in our room. Every morning they rub all around them. Lol. My recommendation is that you get a rug that can be washed. I throw mine in the wash every month or so.

Small Rustic Mirrors

Since my bedroom is rustic, I bought two 16×12 inch white mirrors to put on the wall next my nightstands. These mirrors are small and cheap, but they gave the look I was going for. My goal was to help the light from the candles to cast a romantic glow at night. It definitely gives the candles a boost.

I’d say that these mirrors are totally optional for a romantic room. You may not have the wall space or right decor to make these mirrors work. If I wasn’t trying to keep the price low, I’d of gone with bigger, nicer mirrors. Remember, I was trying to keep the price tag on the lower end for this decor. But honestly, I like the way it turned out and I didn’t have to pay a hefty price for something bigger. Mirrors can be pretty costly.

Battery Operated Candles

I have purchased several sets of these candles all over my house. They are actually a really great price for what you’re getting. Originally, I bought these because I wanted to use pillar candles as accents in my living room. Pillar candles can be pretty expensive. I’d barely be able to get 2 candles for the price of all of these.

While you have to put batteries in them for them to work, you don’t have to if you’re just using them for show. If you don’t plan to use them for lighting, you could forgo the batteries. I actually use the ones by my bed every night to give me light after we cut off the overhead light. They come with a remote so you can set them up all over your room and cut them off and on from your bed.

On a side note, we’ve used these several times when the power went out. I move them into the kid’s rooms and the bathrooms so they have light. It is a safer option than leaving candles burning all over the house.

Pillar Candle Holders

You might want to get the pillar candle holders if you have bedside tables. It’s not necessary to get these, especially if you get the set of battery-operated candles I recommend. They actually come in different heights, and they don’t need to sit on a base since they are battery-powered. But, I wanted to add accents to my nightstands by adding these rustic white pillar candle holders. Also, it holds the candles up higher so the light bounces off the mirrors better.

Sex Message Candle

Want to really make your room romantic? Set this sex message candle on your nightstand and light it when you are in the mood. It’s a flirty way to get your spouse’s attention during the day. If you’re open to having sex at some point that day, light it so they can get the hint. It comes in a few different scents. I like the apple harvest, but I got the white sage and lavender. The sage and lavender smell like a natural soap made from essential oils, in my opinion. Not my favorite.

Small Fake Plants

I love adding greenery to my rooms, so I chose these small eucalyptus plants. They are cute and don’t look horrible like some fake plants can.

This was an accent that I went back and forth over. Mainly because it was just adding costs and I knew it would take up space on my nightstands. I decided to go for it because I thought it would fill out the candles a little. Also, I can hide our tissue boxes behind the plants and candles and it obscures the boxes enough to make me happy. And lastly, adding this to the nightstand makes it harder for me to pile up junk. The more decorations on my nightstand, the less likely I am to leave other stuff out.

Romantic Bedroom Decor on a Budget

If you buy everything that I have posted in this article (including 1 dog bed) at the time I’m writing it, you’ll spend roughly $350.00, assuming you have prime shipping. This is a little higher than my goal, but I didn’t factor in a dog bed and rug when I was putting together this decor. And the listing prices change a lot, so some of these items may have been cheaper when I put together the look.

I recommend you look for other listings with similar products to see if someone has them cheaper. The listings’ prices always change, so someone may have something the same or similar for less.

Don’t feel like you have to buy everything I have shown in my room. My hope is that you could take a few items from what I have pictured and add them to what you already have. But, if you have the budget and want a fresh new look in your room, I say grab all of these items. They have done well for us.

Commit to Making The Bed Every Day

Aside from the price tag of this look, I really wanted to make it easy to keep up. I’m sure you’ve seen the memes of husbands taking off 100 bed pillows from their beds before they can get in at night. My goal was to choose cozy bedding that looks gorgeous and takes only a few minutes to make up.

Here’s how we make our bed each day:

  • Pull the white bedspread up to the headboard.
  • Stand our bed pillows against the headboard.
  • Put the two pillows covered in the furry shams in front of our pillows.
  • Set the inspirational quote pillow in the middle of the furry pillows.
  • Fold the chunky blanket in half and lay across the edge of the bed.

And we’re done. It takes us no more than 3-5 minutes to accomplish. At night, I grab the pillows in both hands and set them on my couch. Then I grab the chunky blanket and set it on the couch…and I’m ready to get in bed.

I hope this romantic bedroom decor inspires you to spruce up your room and make it more inviting for both of you!

Loved the picture of the dogs in the dog beds. So cute! We have two dogs as well and they look cute on their beds. I just have to shoo them out of the bed room when I have sexual intimacy with my wife lol…

thanks. 😀 We used to kick the dogs out too, but these days they just scratch on the door the whole time and whine. So we let them get settled and then we’re good.
