So the title, one thing I’m missing with my new diet, might be a little misleading. I’m actually missing a lot of things, but many of those I have figured out great substitutes. Each week, it feels like I’m finding a solution to something else I’m missing.
My Diet Changes Over the Past 8 Months
If you are wondering what diet changes I’m talking about, here’s what I’ve cut out:
This has not been an easy adjustment for me to make by any stretch. I’ve been really frustrated with missing out on some of my favorite foods. As you can imagine, eliminating these ingredients has made it really hard to order when eating out.
Specialty Coffees Are Hard To Order
One of the things that I’m barely starting to figure out how to order is specialty coffee. For a long time now, I’ve been drinking most coffee black. I did this about two years ago to reduce my caloric intake. However, I really enjoy drinking a cup of specialty coffee sometimes.
There have been a few drinks that I am able to order at Starbucks that have been good. Let’s be real, though, there’s only so often I can get a cup of coffee that costs that much. I really need a DIY solution for here at the house.
We’ve Been Known To DIY Coffee Drinks For Date Night
Back in the days that we were financially drained, we did everything we could to make at home date nights as special as possible. Austin got really good at making us our own versions of frappucinos and cappuccinos.
All of those drink recipes start with espresso. After you’ve brewed the espresso, you add in the flavoring. The problem for me right now is that I need a sugar free, dairy free option for the recipe.
An Espresso Machine Would Provide a Solution
When Austin and I worked in youth ministry at our second church, we had an espresso machine we used for youth hangout nights. Oh man was that thing amazing! We taught a few of our youth to use the machine and make drinks for everyone. I even made little barista aprons for them to wear while they were mixing up the drinks.
The part of the espresso machine that is most exciting to me is the frother. I’ve been wondering if you can froth almond milk or coconut milk. I’m pretty sure you can, and that feature would really give me what I’m missing most in specialty coffees- the full body feel that milk adds to it.
