I spent many a summer day sitting around a picnic table in the back yard with my family and friends. Back in the day, Dad cooked on his own homemade grill that he crafted from a metal barrel. There’s a picture somewhere from 30 years ago of my daddy standing around that old barrel, cooking up some burgers and dogs.
Cooking out is a great way to get to know other people. I particularly love hosting cookouts because it helps when you have a small house to invite more people over.
I asked Tara Snyder to come on and share some of her tips for a rocking cookout. Here’s what she has to say-
Today, as a dinner party host, you strive to encourage your friends to relax in the comfort of your home. You aim to create an atmosphere where everyone can laugh and joke around the table. This is the perfect way to get to know others.
Here’s the recipe of how to throw a rocking cookout
Cookouts Require a Grill
You’ve opted for the classic outdoor eating experience: cooking out. Invest in a grill that is multi functional and allows you to cook a variety of meats and fish all at once. A well-built charcoal barbeque will be a new piece of furniture for your garden.
It will infuse your meat with the distinctive smoky char that every grill should have. For ease of use, a grill that uses self-lighting charcoal will mean you’ll be ready to hear the sizzle of the meat as you lay it on the hotplate in no time.
You can cook all kinds of foods on your grill. In fact, you can even sear the outside of your roast before throwing it in the oven to finish up. This method is similar to pan frying ahead of time to seal in the juices.
We All Scream For Ice Cream
There isn’t a dessert more synonymous with summer than ice cream. And there is nothing better than creating a bespoke homemade flavor. Invest in one of the best ice cream freezers on the market to ensure thick, smooth and ice free results every time.
Let your imagination run wild as you experiment with flavors and ingredients. Some of my favorite things to add in is-
Depending on what type of ice cream you make, topping it off with chocolate syrup and whipped cream is in order.
If you need a dairy free solution- consider freezing bananas ahead of time and putting them in a blender. It tastes remarkably like normal banana ice cream.
Start The Beat
To generate the sort of ambiance that you are after, think about creating the perfect playlist on your iPod. If you want some soothing and chilled out background music and nothing more, hook yourself up to a streaming service and select the appropriate playlist.
If you’re keen on creating more of a party atmosphere for when the food has settled and people are ready to enjoy the twilight, search out some tunes that will get people up and dancing. If you are hosting a themed party, make sure your music matches.
Summer is a time to kick back, enjoy the long hours of sunshine and seek out the company of family and friends. Grab yourself these seasonal essentials and host the perfect summer dinner party.
