I am asked all of the time if my curls are natural, and the answer is yes. Here’s the thing about curly hair, it is usually super dry and requires a lot of attention to keep from frizzing out. I’ve spent my whole life figuring out ways to have healthy, shiny hair. That is why I use natural methods to take care of my curls.
Your hair is one of the first things that people notice about you. As such, it can be easy to become self conscious of dry, dull, and less-than-amazing locks. But did you know there are things you can do to transform your hair from dry and boring to hydrated and fabulous?
One such way is with the use of essential oils. In today’s post, I’d like to address their use. This will include a look at some commonly used essential oils for healthy hair, and a four-ingredient recipe you can use to get started transforming your hair now.
What Are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are plant-based liquids, extracted from a variety of plants for their various purposes.
These oils are used widely in holistic medicine, especially where aromatherapy is involved.
And, from their use as libido boosters to stress relievers, there’s no wonder that essential oils are taking the world of holistics by storm.
How Can They Help Your Hair Look Amazing?
As mentioned, essential oils serve a wide variety of purposes. One purpose which many may not be aware of, however, is their use as a healthy hair growth stimulator. In fact, the components found within each different essential oil can contribute to the health of your scalp and, as a result, your hair.
Each oil has different properties, offering up their own remedies and benefits. A few essential oils which are commonly used for hair health include:
A promoter of hair cycle conversion and a reducer of scalp inflammation, evening primrose oil is a great essential oil to have in your hair care arsenal.
Lavender Oil –
This light and fragrant oil can do much more than soothe your stresses. Its antiseptic properties contribute to a healthy, clean scalp, and its promotion of blood circulation will improve overall hair growth.
Perhaps one of the most beneficial essential oils for use on the scalp and hair, peppermint oil has been shown to treat dry scalp, clean the hair follicles, and soothe general scalp irritation.
Rosemary Oil –
An essential oil with a long medicinal history, rosemary oil has been proven to treat two main forms of hair loss, Alopecia Areata and Androgenetic Alopecia. In addition, it has been shown to work effectively as an anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial.
This anti-microbial and moisturizing essential oil packs a serious punch when it comes to promoting the growth of healthy hair.
Of course, there are plenty more essential oils where those came from.
The 4-Ingredient Healthy Hair Serum to Get You Started
Now that you have a better idea of the benefits which essential oils can offer, it’s time to get started making your own healthy hair serum. This serum takes minutes to make, but the results it produces will leave you with healthy, shiny, damage-free hair.
Combine the above four ingredients. As sunlight can degrade essential oils, it’s important to use a dark-colored container and store in a dark place, such as a drawer or cabinet.
To use the serum, pour into the palm of your hand and apply to dry hair. Take 2-3 minutes to work it into the scalp and hair, massaging in gentle, circular motions.
Leave the serum on for at least one hour, and then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Shampoo and condition as usual. Repeat once or twice every week for best results.
If dull, dry, damaged hair is your usual, you’ll be happy to know there are things you can do to bring life to your locks.
Essential oils are one of the best ways to go about doing so, and with the above four-ingredient hair serum recipe, you can get started nourishing your hair today.
