I planned my wedding over 13 years ago. The cost of weddings was very high, even then. With the current wedding trends that I see, the cost of your special day is even higher.
I brought Candace Layne on to share with us some of her ways to save on your wedding. Here’s what she has to say-
Weddings can be expensive. If you allow the current wedding market to influence you too much, you can think that just because you’re getting married, you have to go into debt.
With the average wedding costing more than $25,000, many brides and grooms are looking for sneaky ways to save that won’t affect the character of their big day.
Getting Married Outside Of Peak Times
Like hotels, flights and holiday cottages, wedding venues are seasonal. It turns out that most people want to get married in June and July and at the weekend to make it easier for their guests. They want the hot weather, the photographs outside and the long evenings for partying.
As you might expect, all that demand for venues pushes the price of venues up. People who get married in the middle of summer are literally doubling their venue costs. Even a wedding in early September can be up to 25 percent cheaper than one on a June weekend.
Save On Rings
Many people choose silver, platinum, gold or palladium wedding bands because they want them to last forever. But these metals are expensive. Gold and platinum are some of the highest priced metals. Palladium is only about half the cost. There are other metals that would be less expensive, but just as beautiful.
Take tungsten for instance. Tungsten has traditionally been used to make machine tools, thanks to its durability. Now some companies are using the metal to make rings.
Check out this site for unique tungsten rings. What’s more, tungsten looks almost identical to all the more expensive metals, with the exception of gold. Rather than pay $500 for a ring, you can pick up a tungsten ring for around $100.
Embrace The All-Inclusive
Some people like to shop around for every element of their wedding. They go to one place for the venue, another for the flowers, and another for the catering. It sometimes works out much cheaper combining all the elements into a single, all-inclusive deal.
According to the website Brides, the average couple who get a venue with a catering package could save as much as $25 a head, which really adds up if you’ve got hundreds of people coming to your wedding.
Pick Local Flowers
The average couple spends nearly $1000 just on flowers at their wedding. But part of the reason why they end up spending so much is because they’re importing flowers from halfway around the world. A much better solution is to buy flowers locally. According to Brides, this can save the average couple more than $600.
