If you hadn’t heard our news, Austin and I are making some really incredible changes around our home It is going to require us to get on a better schedule than what we have got going right now.
What changes are we making might you ask? Well, for one thing, we decided to bring our boys home from public school and go back to homeschooling them. Starting in a few weeks, I’ll be teaching my 3 boys, plus 2 classes at our local co-op.
The other major change we made was Austin’s job change. He has been working a full time job plus a part time job for the last year. In the last few weeks, he gave up the full time job to come home and combine our efforts into my writing business.
Developing a Daily Routine
If Austin and I have any chance in the world to do everything we’ve piled on our plates, we are going to have to develop a better routine. I have no doubt that we can do this if we work together as a team. The biggest thing is developing a routine that will help us.
Ideally, I would love to see us navigate our kids through their homework, chores, and special projects without fighting. Also, I’d like to see Austin and I both have the uninterrupted time that we need to accomplish our work. Then, I’d like for us, as a family, to have been so productive that we can just hang out at night to do the things we enjoy.
I’m not sure we can get through a day without fighting with our kids, but I think we can move ourselves into the direction where we get more accomplished in a day.
The Current Situation
Currently, Austin and I are getting up pretty late in the mornings. We tend to slip into this habit when we don’t have someplace to be. Getting up later isn’t a real issue for a few days. The problem is when we let it go on for too long.
Personally, I don’t ever want to get up at 5:30am so that is not on our radar. However, I would like to be up by 7:30 and starting the day. That is much more doable for our family life.
The other problem that we are dealing with is our inability to shut down our work life after dinner. I really stink at this. For the last 3 years, I’ve just been shoving my work time in every free minute that I have.
What We Are Doing to Develop A Routine
Both Austin and I are have been talking about a new schedule for our family. I’m not super strict on schedules, but we need something to go by, otherwise we are going to wind up stressed out.
A while ago, I bought the Make Over Your Evenings Course and Make Over Your Mornings Course from Crystal Paine. I had done her Make Over Your Year Course with Austin, and we both enjoyed it, so I decided to get her other courses. Here’s the honest truth- I haven’t taken the time to go through them. However, I did buy them because I knew that I would be homeschooling the kids this year and I would want to work through them at some point.
Why I Love The Make Over Your Evenings and Mornings Course
Now, you know I’m not huge on reading books, which is why I really like her courses. These are video based courses with worksheets that you can go through. What I really love about the 8 videos is how short they are. I’ve done plenty of ecourses that the videos are 45-60 minutes. Crystal’s videos are averaging at about 5-6 minutes a piece.
There’s no way on the planet I’m going to sit down with these courses every day for a week or two. In reality, I’ll batchwork it the way I do everything else in my life. I’m planning to sit down and binge watch every video in both of these courses and then make my way through the workbook in a day or two.
Crystal Gives Such Great Value
Another reason that I am really looking forward to Crystal’s courses, is that I know how much value she provides. I’ve followed her for the last 8 years. The things she writes about on Money Saving Mom has hands down been the biggest help in my life.
Without the things she shares, Austin and I wouldn’t have been able to meet our bills a few years ago. Not only that, I wouldn’t have been able to find writing clients on Fiverr. Nevermind how much Crystal has taught me about being a business owner and working online. Suffice it to say, this lady knows exactly what I need to hear and she says it.
I’m positive that by working through her course, Austin and I are going to be able to develop the routines we need to embark on this new adventure in our lives.
