When I was growing up, my mom stayed home with us. She didn’t work outside of the home until I turned 16. I saw the huge benefits in my own life, because she was home with us so much.
Just because my mom didn’t get a paycheck at the end of the week, she worked very hard for all of us. Aside from doing what it takes to run a home, she also found ways to earn extra income. She taught piano lessons, took in sewing, and drove her personal vehicle to pick up kids for private school.
The Kind Of Wife And Mom I Always Wanted to Be
Since I had such a powerful influence in my life through my mom, I always wanted to stay home with my children. It was my hopes to homeschool them for their early education at least.
It didn’t take long for me to realize that the price of childcare is so high, that I wouldn’t find a job with my skill level to make it worth it.
Erin over at the Humbled Homemaker, wrote an awesome post about Staying at Home When You Can Barely Afford It. That was completely opposite of my problem, I couldn’t afford to go to work.
So Many Failed Attempts
Austin was working at a church as a part time youth minister. He was also attending seminary full time. It was a difficult time for us financially. Against my plans, I went to work very part time at a Chick-fil-a. The only reason I could be ok with it is because Austin watched our son during those hours.
Eventually, I came home from working altogether and Austin took on a second job. He was gone a lot between the two jobs and seminary.
Mom made it look so easy to earn extra money from home. I tried several different things to earn from home, but nothing worked out. It was very discouraging to me that I couldn’t be the wife and mom I wanted to be.
When I Became A Money Saving Mom
Making money just wasn’t happening for me, no matter what I did. We moved to a new town so that Austin could take on a full time position at a church.
When we moved, our financial situation became even more bleak. Our house in the previous town was not selling. It took a solid year and a half for us to sell it.
Something had to give in our budget. One day, a friend of mine sent me a link to Crystal Paine’s website, The Money Making Mom. I’ve talked about her before and told you how instrumental she has been in my life.
Before I started reading Crystal’s blog, I thought I was frugal. I thought I knew how to budget and how to save. She taught me so much through her blog. It is one of the reasons that we made it through that period of time with two mortgages.
Things Shifted in Our Lives Causing Big Changes
I was very content with my couponing days. The amount of money I was able to save at the grocery store was amazing. Not only that, Crystal taught me how to find free resources for homeschooling, diy projects, and so much more.
Austin took on a job as an Associate Pastor to another church, and we were on the move once again. At that time, we were in a much better financial place.
The area I live in now has a lot of coupon competition. Not only that, the price of food in this area is higher than where I lived before. Combine my inability to snag deals and the rising cost of groceries, our budget was beginning to suffer.
When I Became A Money Making Mom
I was still reading Crystal’s blog and noticed a bit of a shift in her focus. I don’t know if it was intentional, or just what I was reading, but she was encouraging us to seek out ways to earn income from home.
This was not something I wanted to hear, because I had done so many things to try and make a bit of money. In fact, I had even signed up for surveys and other companies that I thought would bring in at least a little something. Again, nothing worked out.
One day, I read a post that she had about working on a website called Fiverr. I’ll admit, I was very skeptical about this opportunity, because everything else I had tried failed. I signed up for an account and was amazed that in 2 days, I had orders coming in.
My Freelance Writing Opportunities Took Off
Over the last two years, I have been freelance writing for many different people. It has been such a blessing to work with so many different clients.
When I took out a gig on Fiverr, I had no idea what I was doing. Goodness, I didn’t even know how to write for the internet at all. Believe me…it’s different than college paper writing.
God has truly blessed me with this job. I have not had a single period of time over the last two years where I didn’t have enough work to keep me busy.
Love Hope Adventure Was Born
I spent a year writing for other people and learning what it means to be a blogger and the inner workings of creating websites. Finally, I had the confidence to start my own blog. Thus, Love Hope Adventure was born.
Managing my own blog has been truly incredible! I have had so much fun interacting with all of you that come onto the site. One day, I will share the full story of how Love Hope Adventure came about and why I’m so passionate about it.
A Great Opportunity to Review The Money Making Mom Book
When Crystal posted that she was looking for a group of people to help her launch her latest book Money Making Mom, I was so excited. For the first time ever, I felt like I could give something back to this amazing lady who has been a huge influence over me during some very difficult times in my life.
I’ve spent the last few weeks going over this book and listening to Crystal on Periscope. Again, she is giving me the information I need most to make the next steps in my life. I’m in a place where I want to take my business in a new direction, and what I am reading in her book is truly helping me get there.
I will give a full review of this book later on. I just wanted to give you a bit of a back story before I did.
The book is due to launch on November 3 and she is offering some freebies to anyone who pre-orders the book.
You can purchase the book through Amazon.
Once you have placed your order, you can claim your free pre-order bonuses through the Money Making Mom Book website.
